Northern province Chief Minister C.V. Vigneshwaran stated participating at a media brief held in Jaffna the other day that a discussion with the President will be held tomorrow (12) to resolve the issues relating to the Political Prisoners.
The government has advised the Attorney General Department to take steps to release suspects who can be released on bail out of those who were arrested under the Prevention of Terrorism Act and remanded.
Prison Commissioner General M.B. Rohana Pushpakumara states that they were advised that actions were to be taken after discussing with the President, Prime Minister (PM) and the Attorney General Department.
Under the Prevention of Terrorism Act cases were filed against 116 suspects at the Supreme Court (SC) while 52 cases were filed at the Magistrate Courts. 10 out of the above has filed an appeal.
The Prison Commissioner General has issued a notice stating that today the Attorney General Department has advised the concerned state lawyers that 31 suspects were to be granted bail.
However a group of Tamil inmates are to be produced at the courts and are expected to be granted bail States Minister of National Dialogue Mano Ganeshan stated.
