Two persons were killed and another five injured when a grenade carried by the suspect exploded at a private bank situated in front of Kekirawa hospital.
The injured were rushed to Kekirawa hospital and transferred later to Dambulla hospital for further treatment.
A suspect who arrived in a three wheeler had attempted to forcfully enter a private bank this afternoon.
A witness said that the robber accidentally lobed the grenade when a security guard attempted to stop him from entering the bank.
The 29-year old security guard who was killed in the explosion was a resident of the area. A senior police officer conducting investigations told our news team that the suspect has been identified as a resident of Galewela.

Two killed in foiled bank robbery
A robber who had attempted to rob a private bank in Kekirawa, Anuradhapura was killed along with the security guard of the bank when a hand grenade exploded, Police sources stated.
The security guard had attempted to prevent the robber from entering the bank, which had resulted in a scuffle between the robber and the security guard.
A hand grenade in the possession of the robber had then exploded, killing the two.
