The Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya, ordered that 31 LTTE suspects who were arrested under the Prevention of Terrorism Act be released on bail today.
The suspects were on two cash bails each amounting to one million rupees. In addition, the suspects were banned to go overseas and ordered to appear before the Police Terrorism Prevention Division on Each Sunday every fortnight.
However the suspects were taken back to Prison as nobody was present in Court to follow through with bail proceedings, furthermore an order was made that they be remanded until 24th of November .
The lawyers who appeared on behalf of the suspects have informed Court that the Attorney General’s Department had instructed to apply for bail.
However our Court reporter stated that the Terrorism Investigation Division had not received such notice from the Attorney General’s Department.
The suspects blamed TNA MPs and the government for the confusion.
Expressing his views to the media, coordinator of the National Movement to free Political Prisoners, Father N. Sathyavail said that it is the responsibility of the President to release the suspects.

Thirty two ex- LTTE detainees released
Thirty two former Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) detainees were released by Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya a short while ago on strict bail conditions of following the approval of the Attorney General’s (AG’s) Department.
The inmates were re-remanded till November 24 this morning pending approval from the AGs Department. However, Counsel appearing for the AG stated they were unaware the case would be taken up this morning. Thereafter the Department had instructed the detainees be released.
