Many reservoirs and lakes spill over due to incessant showers; Heavy rains tonight as well
The met department states that the disturbance in the Bay of Bengal has intensified in to a low pressure area and is now located to the East of Sri Lanka.
Under the influence of the system, showery weather and cloudy skies over the country is expected to continue.
Possibility for strong winds over the country and surrounding sea area is high.
Showers or thundershowers will be experienced over most parts of the island.
Duty Meteorologist Srimal Herath stated that heavy falls about 150 mili meters are also likely at some places.
Due to incessant showers reservoirs and lakes in many districts have reached spill level.
Meanwhile, sluice gates of Lunugamvehera, Ranjanganaya, Iranamadu, and Thabowa tanks were opened due to the rising water levels following heavy showers.
Thisa Wawe, Basawakkulama wawe and Mahakanadara wawe are also overflowing.
The Disaster Management centre stated that many low lying areas in Puthlam, Mannar and Kilinochci are inundated.
