The MET Department stated that the low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal still persists and is now located to the northeast of Sri Lanka.

Under the influence of the system, showery weather and cloudy skies over the country is expected to continue today.

Possibility for strong winds over the country and surrounding sea area is still high.

Showers or thundershowers will be experienced over most part of the island, particularly in the northern half of the island while very heavy falls of about 150 mm are also likely at some places.

Meanwhile, the Disaster Management Centre stated that 25,000 people in 5 districts have been affected by the adverse weather conditions.
