79,000 in 9 districts affected by inclement weather; 22 Tanks overflow

The Disaster Management Centre stated that 79 thousand 085 persons belonging to 23 thousand 519 families in 9 districts have been affected by the inclement weather affecting the country.

Accordingly, Nuwara-eliya, Badulla, Puttlam, Gampaha, Trincomalee, Matale, Jaffna, Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu districts have been affected.

1 death was also reported from Kilinochchi.

In the Northern Province alone, 11 thousand families have been affected.

Meanwhile, 22 Tanks and Reservoirs are overflowing following heavy rains experienced in several parts of the country.

Directress of the Water Management Unit of the Irrigation Department Janaki Meegas-thenna stated that people living in low lying areas should therefore be on alert.

The MET Department stated that a reduction in showers can be expected by tomorrow.
