The Disaster Management Centre stated that 38 thousand 019 persons in 10 districts have been affected by the inclement weather affecting the country.

Nearly 7 thousand persons have been displaced.

Assistant Director of the Disaster Management Centre Pradeep Kodippilli stated that relief measures are currently underway.

The North and East were the most affected areas by inclement weather.

The Kilinochchi district is reportedly the worst affected with nearly 4 thousand people displaced by floods.

The Disaster Management Centre stated that the support of the Army has been obtained in moving the affected people to secure areas.

 

Meanwhile, 22 Tanks and Reservoirs are overflowing following heavy rains experienced in several parts of the country.

Directress of the Water Management Unit of the Irrigation Department Janaki Meegas-thenna stated that people living in low lying areas should therefore be on alert.

Sluice gates of several Tanks had to be opened from time to time.

 

The MET Department stated that a low pressure area has developed in to a depression and is located to the just North-east of Sri Lanka.

Under the influence of the system showery weather and cloudy skies over the country is expected to continue.

Possibility for strong winds over the country and surrounding sea areas is still high.

Duty Meteorologist Malith Fernando stated that prevailing showery weather is expected to reduce by some extent by tomorrow.
