What Causes The Child Deaths at Karapitiya?

The Health Ministry has informed the Hospital’s concerned authority to submit a preliminary inspection report in connection with the death of four children after operating at the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital’s Heart and Cardiac Unit.

Accordingly an internal inspection is already in progress states the Karapitiya hospital director Dr. Shelton Perera.

Out of the 20 children operated in the Karapitiya Hospital’s Heart and Cardiac Unit around four children has died within the last few days. 

The concerned authority has initiated an internal inspection since three deaths are suspected to be caused by infection after the operation. The inspections are headed by a doctor specialized in microorganism.

Meanwhile the labor union states that the concerned hospital authorities should produce a swift conclusion about the deaths incidents of the children after being operated at the Karapitiya hospital. The chairman of the Lanka nurses’ union states that by producing the report at the earliest it would help to curb any further irregularities.
