A petition was handed over to the Sri Lankan Medical Council requesting the initiation of an investigation into the death of late Maduluwawe Sobhitha Thera.
Speaking to the media, petitioner Rathkarawwe Jinarathana Thera said that there are disputes with regard to the nature of care received by the Thera following being admitted to the Neville Fernando hospital.
During a recent media conference convened by the Neville Fernando hospital, the hospital director Dr. Sameera Senarathna was asked if the late Thera was disturbed by his visitors.
In related news, chairman of the hospital Dr. Neville Fernando said that he would sue the president of the Medical council Dr. Carlo Fonseka for 500 million rupees compensation as Dr. Fonseka’s statement to a newspaper had resulted in damaging the reputation of his hospital.
In the meantime, the Government Medical Officers Association also requested that the ministry of health conduct a proper investigation into the death of the late Thera.
