A Sri Lankan court has sentenced an Indian woman to life in prison for smuggling drugs.
The Negombo High Court today sentenced the Indian woman who was charged with import, possession and smuggling of cocaine. The suspect has pled guilty to all charges and was accordingly sentenced to life imprisonment.
The Police Narcotic Bureau at the Colombo International Airport in Katunayake arrested the Indian national on 11 March 2009 when she attempted to smuggle the drugs. Police had found 448 grams of cocaine in her possession. Charges were filed against the suspect on the 6th of June in 2011.
