US Representative to the UN visits Jaffna

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power who is in the island engaged on a tour of Jaffna today.

Ambassador Samantha Power met with Northern Province Governor H M G S Palihakkara, Jaffna Divisional Secretary Nagalingam Wedanayagam and Northern Province Chief Minister C V Vigneshwaran.

On return to Colombo tomorrow, she is expected to meet with President Maithripala Sirisena, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and few other government Ministers.

Samantha Power is the US Permanent Representative to the United Nations and a member of President Obama’s Cabinet.

In Sri Lanka, Ambassador Power will highlight the United States’ commitment to strengthening the bilateral partnership, and she will underscore US support for the country’s efforts toward reconciliation and lasting peace.
