A challenge from the Joint opposition to the speaker
The joint Opposition challenged the Speaker in parliament yesterday.
MP Ranjith Soysa representing the joint opposition said that if their MPs were not given enough time to participate in parliamentary debates, they would, in the, future act against conventions.
Meanwhile an amendment to the 2015 draft budgetary estimates bill was put forward by Finance State Minister Lakshman Yapa on behalf of the Government yesterday.
Following the recommendation of MP Jayantha Samaraweera, a vote was taken.
While 35 voted for, only three voted against the amendment.
As a result, The amendment was passed yesterday afternoon.
