President meets British PM during Commonwealth Sessions; Britain offers financial aid worth 6.6 Million Pounds to Sri Lanka
British Prime Minister David Cameron met with President Maithripala Sirisena on the sidelines of the Commonwealth summit in Malta.
The British Prime Minister said that Britain is committed to standing up for those affected by Sri Lanka’s civil war.
Britain will give Sri Lanka 6.6 million Pounds over three years to help Sri Lanka continue its recovery from war.
The money will be backed up by a non-resident defence attache and access to British armed forces training to help with military reform.
The aid will also help people displaced from their towns and villages during the war to return home.
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera together with the Foreign Ministers of India, Malta and Mauritius signed a Declaration of Intent for the creation of a Commonwealth Trade Finance Facility to assist boost trade and investment flows.
