Government, semi government and private sector strike within next 2 weeks
The trade union collective comprising of the government, semi government and private sectors have decided to stage an island wide general strike within the next two weeks.
Convener of the trade union collective Saman Rathnapriya said that the strike would be staged to voice their opposition to the budget 2016 that states relief will be slashed.
Meanwhile the Government Medical Officers Association stated that it would stage an island wide strike next week against the proposal to not increase government servant’s salaries.
Addressing a media conference in Colombo today, GMOA Secretary Dr. Nalin de Herath said the majority professional associations will be joining the strike.
The Joint Front of Professional Associations convened a meeting this afternoon to discuss this matter in detail.
After the meeting, GMOA Secretary Dr. de Herath further said that a decision had been made during the meeting to distribute leaflets in Colombo next Wednesday to educate the general public about the issue.
