President Sirisena tells developed nations to be thoughtful
President Maithripala Sirisena joined over 150 heads of state and government in Paris to reach a new and universal climate change agreement at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Summit.
Addressing the summit President Maithripala Sirisena stated that Sri lanka too contributes to the effort being made for minimising climate change in the world.
The President was received by French President François Hollande and United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.
The Conference commenced with the opening announcement given by President Hollande and it was followed by a speech from the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.
Over 180 countries attending this global summit made it the largest single-day gathering of heads of state or government in history.
On the eve of the COP21 conference, 184 countries covering around 95 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions had delivered their national climate action plans to the UN Framework Convention.
