Several trade unions raise their objections for slashing the benefits of working community and imposing more taxes on the general public through the budget.

They are also preparing to launch a token strike on the 15th of this month in protest of these moves by the government.

Convener of the Joint Federation of Nurses, Para Medics and Supplementary health workers unions Saman Rathnapriya stated during a media conference held in Colombo this morning that members of 15 trade unions would join the proposed token strike.

Meanwhile president of the National Trade Union Center K.D. Lal Kantha told during a leaflet distributing campaign held in Colombo Fort this afternoon that trade union actions by his movement would be decided tomorrow.

The All Ceylon Private Bus Owners Association and Lanka Private Bus Owners Association also stated that they are preparing to stage an island wide strike on 15th of this month against the adverse effects befallen on the transport sector by the budget 2016.

Addressing a media conference held in Colombo this morning, General Secretary of the Federation of All Ceylon Bus Owners Association Anjana Priyanjith said that they will launch the strike on December 15th.

Meanwhile Executive officers joint committee which comprise 16 trade unions convened a media conference today to comment on the budget 2016.

Addressing the media, Secretary of the Government Medical Officers Association Dr. Naveen de Soysa said future course of action by his organization would be decided tomorrow.

Meanwhile workers association of the Department of Government Printing has also pledged to support the strike to be launched on December 15th.
