Investigations regarding passing on ownership of elephants by Mahinda to Gotabaya

The state counsel informed Court today that investigations have been initiated on gifting two elephants to Gotabhaya Rajapaksa by former president Mahinda Rajapaksa through a credential.

This was revealed when a case for keeping the two elephants illegally taken up for hearing before Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya today.

State Counsel Dileepa Peries told the Court that the former Defence Secretary had been gifted two elephants but he is not currently keeping them in his custody.

At the same time the state counsel revealed details about 11 other persons who kept elephants in their custody in the past.

Among those who kept elephants in their custody are Kolonnawe Sumangala Thera, Brahmana-watte Rathanasara Thera, Additional Magistrate Thilina Gamage and former opposition leader of the Western Provincial Council Kithsiri Kahatapitiya.
