Abu Azrael – which roughly translates to ‘The Angel of Death’ – is purportedly the commander of the Kataib al-Imam Ali, an Iraqi Shiite militia group. It's the same group which has been fighting Islamic State in Iraq for the past many years.

Reportedly, he has killed over 1,500 Islamic State members so far; and is known as ‘Angel of Death’ among the group

Azrael is a former university lecturer and Taekwondo champion, reports claim.

In last few years, Abu Azrael has become a symbol of Iraqi Shiite resistance against ISIS.
