The former navy chief made this statement while giving evidence at the presidential commission of inquiry into massive fraud and corruption, yesterday.
The Commission began its duties yesterday by rejecting three objections filed against it.
Accordingly the objections filed , that the commission has no legal authority to probe Avant Garde and to summon and question the former defence secretary and former navy commanders were rejected.
On this occasion the former navy commander said that although the Sri Lankan navy had fulfilled its duty, the navy had not been able to eradicate the LTTE activities of transporting arms by sea.
Giving evidence Admiral Somatilake Dissanayake also said that during the final period of tenure in office he had approved a defence Ministry proposal for Avant Garde to have a floating armoury.
