Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has stated that he cannot intervene to release Kumar Gunarathnam who is considered to be the leader of the Frontline Socialist Party.
This was when a group of members of the Frontline Socialist Party met with the Premier at the Parliamentary complex yesterday.
The Party had earlier lodged a complaint with the Human Rights Commission and a case is being heard at the Kegalle Magistrate Courts and hence the Prime Minister said that he now cannot intervene in the issue.
Kumar Gunarathnam was arrested while at his Mother’s residence on the 05th of last month for violating immigration laws.
Meanwhile, Parliamentarian Dallas Alahapperuma speaking at a media briefing convened by the Joint Opposition stated that Kumar Gunarathnam should be offered citizenship.
