Sluice gates of many reservoirs have been opened due to incessant showers island wide.

Accordingly sluice gates of Parakrama Samudraya, Rajanganaya, Iginimitiya, Thabbowa, Daduru-oya, Kavudulla,  Veheragala and Lunugamvehera are opened.

The Disaster Management centre stated that many roads in Polonnaruwa, Hambanthota and Puthlam are inundated as well.

The Colombo – Katharagama Road is reportedly inundated in the Hambantota area.

Accordingly traffic is hindered in Hungama and Bata – atha.

Our correspondent stated that light vehicles were facing difficulties passing through the area.

The met department states that the atmospheric disturbance still persists in the vicinity of Sri Lanka.

Showers or thundershowers will occur over most parts of the island, particularly after 12.00 noon.

Heavy falls about 100 mili meter are also likely at some places.

Duty Meteorologist Anusha Warnakulasuriya stated that there may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers.
