Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s media secretary Rohan Waliwita states that additional army and officers must be deployed to provide security to the former President.
Issuing a communiqué he stated that since the government has started to release dangerous LTTE suspects who had been held in detention under the PTA, this has placed the life of former President Rajapaksa in danger
At present only 102 Army personnel have been assigned to provide security to former President Rajapaksa.
Of this number, 80 provide security while 22 are administrative personnel.
However, when our news team contacted cabinet spokesperson Minister Rajitha Senerathna, he stated that providing military protection to the President and VIP’s have been halted.
Minister Senarathna stated that police protection will be provided and accordingly police protection will be given to the former President as well.
