The search operation carried out by the Navy to retrieve five bodies is being continued 20 nautical miles off Trincomalee.

The Trincomalee harbor police stated this morning that the search operation was utilising three Dora vessels.

On a tip-off by a fisherman, search operations started last night but the efforts were halted later due to inclement weather.

The fisherman who provided the tip-off had told police that he witnessed three females and two male bodies floating in the sea.

5 bodies floating in the seas of Trincomolee

The Navy and the Police have jointly launched a special search operation based on a tip-off that five dead bodies were floating in the sea about 20 miles from Trincomalee.

The bodies were located in a boat, by a group of fishermen, who then informed the Trincomalee Harbour Police.

The police said that the search operation was initiated immediately and went through the night till dawn. At this time the boat or dead bodies have not been found.

The police media spokesman said that two dora trawlers had been deployed yesterday. The search operation would continue this morning.

In related news, two dead bodies were recovered from the Nilaweli and Talaimannar coast in the last two days.

Police investigations carried out revealed that the dead persons were Indian citizens.
