SLAF Y-12 Aircraft joins Search Operation at Trinco

The Sri Lanka Air force stated that one of their aircraft was deployed to assist the search operation to trace the bodies believed to be floating in the sea off Sampur in Trincomalee.


Air Force Media spokesman Wing Commander Gihan Seneviratne said that a Y12 aircraft was deployed at the request of the Navy .


The search was initiated following a tip-off by a fisherman last night. A joint search operation by Navy and Police was launched to retrieve the five bodies.


However Navy media spokesman captain Akram Alavi stated the search operations were halted later that the night due to inclement weather and the efforts were restarted this morning ushering three Dora vessels.


Meanwhile the body washed ashore at the Nilaweli beach last Saturday is believed to be of Indian origin.


Nilaweli police stated that they found the deceased Identity Card in his pocket.


In addition, police stated that the body of washed ashore on the Thalai Mannar beach last Saturday was also of an Indian national.
