President Maitripala Sirisena said that utmost justice would be meted out to create a healthy society through the Government’s tobacco and alcohol policy.

The President made this statement while at a function held in Colombo yesterday in view of Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne being honoured with the National Anti-smoking Award.

The President said that during the former regime, whilst holding the office as minister of health, he had formulated new laws for eradicating smoking. However implementation of those laws was stalled. It was of concern that implementation of such would impact tourism in a negative manner.

The president said this whilst making reference to the Drugs Act.
