One person was killed and two others missing due to inclement weather.

Police said that a 57 year old woman died after being admitted to the Colombo National Hospital due to injuries sustained after heavy rains caused a wall to collapse in Maadampitiya in Grandpass last afternoon.

A 19-year-old youth drowned in a stream near Khettaaraaama playground in Grandpass.

The incident occurred after attempting to fetch a ball that had fallen into the stream.

Reports say that when this happened the water level of the stream had also risen due to the rain.

Police and Navy have by now launched operation in search of the missing youth.

A person who went in search of cattle as the Naamini Oya in Wilgamuwa reached spillover level, too has gone missing.

The met department states that showers or thundershowers will occur periodically in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern and Uva provinces.

The Met Department, issuing a severe weather advisory said Thundershowers will develop elsewhere after 02.00p.m,

Heavy rain falls, about 150 mili meters, are also expected at some places.

Duty Mterelogist Dharshana Premathilaka said temporary localized strong winds can be expected during thundershowers.

The National Building research organisation stated that the land slide warning issued to 6 districts has been extended.

Land slide warning is issued to Galle, Mathara, Kegallle,Rathnapura, Mathale and Kaluthara districts.
