There are 7975 inmates in prisons; 17 clergy and 58 children among them

The parliament was told today that there are seven thousand 975 prisoners in the country and, among them, one thousand 211 have been charged for manslaughter while two thousand 995 have been accused of narcotic related charges.

MP Dallas Alahapperuma, and the minister of Rehabilitation, Resettlement, Hindu Religious Affairs and Prison Reforms D.M. Swaminadan further said that 17 members of clergy and 58 children born to female inmates are also among them.
