Prime Minister (PM) Ranil Wickremesinghe today proposed Parliament that the no-confidence motion against Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake should be considered by a special select committee.

He made this suggestion during a heated debate on the no-confidence motion.

United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) MP Vasudeva Nanayakkara asked whether a date will be given to debate the no-confidence motion. In response, Leader of the House Lakshman Kiriella said that there was no need for a debate since the budget was passed in Parliament with an overwhelming majority.

The Prime Minister maintained that the budget was not solely a document of the Finance Minister. The government, as a whole, was responsible for it he said.
