Farmers clad in loin cloth march towards Temple trees demanding relief

A group of farmers clad in loin-cloths engaged in a protest march from Lipton Roundabout to Temple Trees today.

The All Ceylon Farmers Convention organized a protest in Colombo today voicing their opposition against the 2016 budget move to slash relief in the Agricultural sector . One of their main concerns has been the proposal to slash the fertilizer subsidy

The protest which started from the Lipton Roundabout in colombo, had protesters march along Dharmapala Mawatha and Colpetty Junction before it reached Temple Trees. 

Heavy traffic was reported as a result of the demonstration.

Our correspondent stated that the protestors refused to meet with an Additional Secretary sent by the Prime Minister’s Office. 

Later they burnt a letter on the spot that was scheduled to be handed over to the Prime Minister.

'Amude' farmers protest: Heavy traffic near Town Hall

Heavy Traffic was reported in the Town Hall area and along Dharmapala Mawatha because of a protest against some of the budget proposals by a large number of farmers wearing loin cloth.
