A group of government medical officers have filed six petitions with the Appeals Court. One of the appeals is to order that the government restore the duty free vehicle permit to government servants including doctors.

Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake, secretary to the ministry of Finance and several others have been named as respondents.

The GMOA has given the government an ultimatum, where they expect certain issues affecting government doctors to be settled within the next 2 weeks.

Among those demands are:

To remove the negative impacts on the government sector by the 2016 budget;

To Annul the proposed Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement with India, to prevent the Indian workforce from  invading the local job market

 And the withdrawal of the minister of  health’s decision to provide clinical training to students of Malabe Private Medical College.

The GMOA stated that its members will launch an island wide strike in the first week of January next year if these demands are not met over the next two weeks.
