The issue of 45 Indian fishermen in the custody of the Sri Lankan Navy was discussed in India’s Lok Sabha yesterday.

K Ashok Kumar of the AIADMK told the Lok Sabha that 45 fishermen are in the custody of the Sri Lankan Navy, the PTI news agency reported.

“Along with boats, they have to be released. There has to be a permanent solution to this,” he said, adding, the Centre should intervene so that the fishermen are released by Sri Lanka.

Besides, he also demanded the release of Rs 1,520 crore for deep sea fishing.

“The Centre should immediately release funds to the state for developing deep sea fishing,” he said.

Another AIADMK member S Rajendran said floods in Tamil Nadu have also affected the fishermen community.
