Death sentence on Sri Lankan house maid commuted

The Saudi Government has decided to commute the death sentence passed on the Sri Lankan housemaid,  to a sentence in jail.
 
This decision has been made following the consideration of the appeal made by the Sri Lankan government on behalf of the condemned maid.
 
the 45 year old mother of two children from Maradana had been condemned to death by stoning in Saudi Arabia after she was  found guilty of adultery.
 
the Saudi Court ordered 100 lashes on the Sri Lankan man who was involved in the affair with the housemaid.
 
Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera personally met the Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Sri Lanka and requested him to take action in order to save the victim from death. 
 
The National Sangha Convention also staged a demonstration in front of the Saudi Embassy in Colombo requesting the authorities to save the Sri Lankan woman.
