Minister of Finance Ravi Karunanayake has assured a close relationship with the Chinese government despite reinterpretation of contracts.
The Minister in an interview with CNBC said “We have a friendly persuasion with China. All we want to do is correct the in governance.
That’s what China is doing. That’s what Maithripala Sirisena government is doing.” Earlier this month, the government stated Chinese deals would proceed after nearly a year of delays as the contracts remain binding, adding that it is a reinterpretation of how clean government should be.
The Minister said “What we want to do is the Sri Lankan economy which was made to look small to be made open. And integrate with the world.” He noted for the first time in 15 years the new government is bringing in financial discipline by fixing its recurrent expenditure.
