The Ministry of Health states that over 12 thousand residents of the Hambantota District volunteered annually to have their blood tested for HIV at the Hambantota hospital.

This was revealed at a meeting of top district health officers held at the Tangalle Divisional Secretariat under the patronage of the Director General Health Services Dr. Palitha Mahipala. 

It was also revealed during this meeting, that 45 Kidney patients have been identified and most of them are from Angunakola-pallassa.

The director general instructed officials to carry out tests regularly and also wanted necessary action to be taken about the deaths related to asthma and pneumonia that have been reported from Hambantota.
