The island wide trade union action launched by workers of the Water Supply and Drainage Board has been suspended.
The convener of the Water Supply Trade Unions Federation Upali Rathnayake said that this decision was following the authority’s decision to restore the already slashed bonus. He also stated that a written document with regard to the restoration of bonus has been obtained.
Water Supply workers are entitled to an annual bonus of 37 thousand rupees, but they were paid only 25 thousand rupees this year.
Meanwhile Water Supply and Drainage Board Chairman Alawdeen Anzar said that the decision was made following discussions with the President and the Prime Minister.
