Photographing frescoes in Sigiriya is to be banned from today (30th) on, Director General of the Central Cultural Fund Prof. Krishantha Gunawardena said.

Gunawardena said that this decision concerning the frescoes cave in Sigiriya was approved by the Department of Archaeology.

Experts have suggested that direct flashing causes damage to frescoes.

This decision was taken after a one-foot long piece of plaster from the roof of the cave which houses Sigiriya frescos fell off on 28th, he atated further.
