Misappropriation on water filtration machines to be investigated

The Special Presidential Commission of Inquiry on Massive Fraud and Corruption (PRECIFAC) has initiated investigations into an alleged misappropriation of over 130 million rupees, in importing water filtration machines, to be distributed among the residents in the North Central Province.

The Commission stated that the abuse of funds had taken place in 2010, 2011 and 2012.  The machinery was ordered by a private company and the Water Supply and Drainage Board’s North West Office has mediated in the transaction.

Accordingly 12 thousand 500 machines have been imported by the company during the three years but most of these machines started malfunctioning within a short period of time.

At the same time, the company in question, although it agreed to attend to the maintenance of machinery, breached the agreement.
