Woman killed as train hits car in Kandana

38-year-old woman was killed and four others, including three children, were injured after a car was struck by a train at a level crossing in Halpe-Kandana this afternoon.

Police Media sources stated that the incident had occurred at the level crossing located at Halpe Junction in Kandana. The car had been struck by a train carrying fuel from Katunayake to Kolonnawa.

The car driver’s wife and two male children aged six years and eight months, as well as the driver’s sister and her child, aged nine months, were injured in the incident. They were admitted to the Ragama hospital, where the driver’s sister succumbed to her injuries. The deceased is a resident of Batagama.

Kandana Police are conducting further investigation into the matter.
