The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) today expressed satisfaction with the decision taken by the Government to free land held by the military in parts of the North.
A TNA statement welcomed the release of 701 acres of land occupied by the military in Valikamam North and East.
The TNA said that the land was released after TNA leader R. Sampanthan made a request to the President when the President visited the North recently.
Following that meeting the President had promised that the request would be considered and as a first step civilians would now be permitted to resettle in one area.
The TNA also urged the President to release the remaining political prisoners at the beginning of the New Year.
