A cab driver allegedly raped a woman passenger, a mother of two children in the vehicle in state capital of Bhopal in India. It is the first incident in Bhopal in which a rape was committed in an app-based cab service.
The incident took place on December 29, but a case was registered on January 1 after the traumatized woman approached police. The case was registered at the local police station and the accused was arrested, foreign media reports.
It is being verified whether the company had gone for police verification before hiring an accused and if he had a past criminal record.
The 28-year-old survivor, who works at a private hospital, took the taxi service to return home after work. Accused picked her up.
He stopped the vehicle at a deserted location between Bairagarh and Gandhi Nagar and raped the woman in the car, threatening he would eliminate her if she told anyone about it.
The survivor remained in trauma after that. She mustered courage and revealed the incident to her husband and later approached police.
The accused lives nearby where survivor lives in Gandhi Nagar area. It came to light that the accused knew her.
Bhopal Police are conducting further investigation into the incident.
