Legal Action Against Vendors Violated Consumer Rights

In last December alone in the central province legal actions have been taken against vendors who violated consumer rights.

The Consumer Rights Authority’s Assistant Director M.S. Naseer who is in charge of the central province has stated that through the above legal actions 8lakhs 69 thousand 500 rupees have been fined. Swift inspections have been conducted in the following districts of Kandy, Matale and Nuwara Eliya.

It is reported that the vendors were arrested for the following offences of not displaying a price list, selling of outdated goods and selling goods at a higher cost than the stipulated price.
