The Presidential Commission of Inquiry in to Serious Fraud and Corruption says that Officials who were called before the commission in connection with an alleged misappropriation of 130 Million Rupees, in the purchase of Multi-Purpose Water Purification Units for combating the kidney decease have been avoiding investigations.

A Senior Spokesperson of the Commission stated that although nearly 20 Officials were requested to appear before the Commission they have been absconding by providing various excuses through their respective Attorneys.

The Presidential Commission of Inquiry in to Serious Fraud and Corruption recently commenced investigations in to the purchase of Multi-Purpose Water Purification Units for controlling the kidney decease in the North Central Province.

The misuse of funds is alleged to have taken place in 2010, 2011 and 2012 where Units had been purchased from a Private Company, while the Wayamba Office of the Water Board had also intervened in the matter.

The Water Purification Units have failed to provide drinking water to the people in the North Central Province as expected.

The Commission points out that the units have malfunctioned within a short time as the relevant company had failed to carryout maintenance while due Tender Processes have also not been followed.
