The Joint Opposition says its last discussion with the Speaker on new Constitutional amendments ended without an agreement being arrived at.
MEP leader representing the Joint Opposition said the proposal that the new amendment should be undertaken by a parliament working committee was not agreed upon.
Representatives of all political parties in parliament participated in this discussion held last night at the Speaker’s official residence.
The Joint Opposition met the Speaker yesterday morning and submitted their proposal. It was discussed with the President and the Prime Minister later that afternoon.
UNP and TNA did not agree to the proposal.
MP Dinesh Gunawardana further said that the two parties opined that the new constitutional amendments should be discussed by a committee out of the parliament.
