The one year completion of the democratic governance established under the leadership of President Maithripala Sirisena will be celebrated today.
A series of programs will be held today to mark the one year completion of the democratic governance.
The President’s Media Division stated that the main national ceremony will be held at 2pm at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall under the patronage of President Sirisena.
The key note address of this ceremony will be made by Gopalkrishna Gandhi, the grandson of the pioneer of the Indian independence struggle Mahatma Gandhi.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Ministers, diplomats, intellectuals and artists are also due to participate in the ceremony.
The academic book ‘One Nation – Great Power’, published to mark this historic occasion will also be launched during the ceremony.
Furthermore, a special religious program will be held at 7 this evening at the historical Kalutara Bodhi to bless President Sirisena, the government and the people of the country.
Meanwhile, the government says the country’s democracy will be confirmed during the first anniversary celebrations of President Maithripala Sirisena sworn in as the Head of State.
Furthermore, President Maithripala Sirisena says the new government has ended the era of putting headlines on newspapers or media outlets from the Temple Trees.
The Head of State said the government worked to provide protection for the independence of media.
Speaking at an event held at the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation yesterday, President Sirisena said a media house can only gain the highest level of excellence through impartiality and independence.
President Maithripala Sirisena said he believes all media houses will work to fulfil its responsibilities, obligations and duties by protecting its legitimacy for the future of the country.
