Attorney General Instructs CID to arrest Hirunika
United National Front (UNF) member Hirunika Premachandra’s arrest in connection with the alleged abduction of a youth in Dematagoda in broad day light is imminent, sources from the Attorney General’s Department told Hiru news.
They added, there was sufficient evidence to suggest that the United National Front (UNF) member was aware of the alleged abduction and it was done with her consent.
The Police, last week, sought the Attorney General’s Department’s (AGDs) opinion on the arrest of Hirunika Premachandra over the incident.
Police found a new lead in the investigation into the abduction of the 34-year-old employee and UNF member Hirunika Premachandra’s alleged involvement in the incident in the form of statements revealed by the daughter of the supporter who was at the venue at the time of the abduction.
The statement has already been forwarded to the AG’s Department by the CID team handling investigations into the said incident.
According to the Police, the 11-year-old girl who is the daughter of the fifth suspect in the case had stated that she met Hirunika before as well as after the abduction.
The girl, who was at the scene at the time of the incident, can be seen in the CCTV video standing by her father, while the abductees is being forcibly hurled out of the drapery store in Dematagoda.
Earlier this week the AG’s Department urged for CCTV footage of the press briefing where Hirunika details the incident, citing that she was merely trying to settle a domestic dispute.
The Colombo Crimes Division informed Courts on Friday of the girl’s statement, which concurs with Amila Priyankara’s version that he was taken to the office of the Hirunika before being threatened and released.
The teams handling the inquiry will also analyze telephone records of the UNF member and her supporters who have been arrested in connection with the alleged abduction.
Colombo Additional Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage, last week, ordered Dialog Axiata to submit phone records to the Police.
Accordingly, the Attorney General (AG) Yuwanjan Wanasundara Wijethilake yesterday (o8) ordered the arrest of Colombo District United National Front (UNF) Parliamentarian Hirunika Premachandra over an abduction of a person last month at Dematagoda in broad day light.
