Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe presented a proposal to Parliament today for the establishment of a constitutional council with the objective of drafting a new Constitution.
Parliament convened at 10.30 this morning and the first task for the day was to present the proposal for the establishment of a constitutional council.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe stated that even the general public will be involved in the process of drafting a new constitution.
President Maithripala Sirisena arrived in Parliament, and made a special statement.
The President stated that just as times change, the constitution should be changed to suit the need of the hour and meet the aspirations of the people.
