No foreign advice for the new constitution

President Maithripala Sirisena states that some are spreading false rumours to the effect that foreign advice is sought when drafting the new constitution.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe presented a proposal to Parliament today for the establishment of a constitutional council with the objective of drafting a new Constitution.

Parliament convened at 10.30 this morning and the first task for the day was to present the proposal for the establishment of a constitutional council.

The President stated that just as times change, the constitution should be changed to suit the need of the hour and meet the aspirations of the people.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe stated that even the general public will be involved in the process of drafting a new constitution.
