Britain’s State Minister for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Hugo Swire will arrive in Colombo this Wednesday.
This is for discussions with Sri Lanka as the two countries continue to strengthen ties between the two Countries after the new government came in to power.
In recognition of the progress achieved by Sri Lanka’s new government with regard to reconciliation and human rights, the British Government earlier announced a 6.6 million Pound package over a 3-year period.
This financial commitment will be backed by accrediting a non-resident defence attache’ and access to armed forces training to help the Sri Lankan military.
Meanwhile, Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj is also to arrive in Sri Lanka at the beginning of next month.
Indian Foreign Secretary Subramanium Jay-Shankhar, is also due in the island on Tuesday with regard to the Indo – Sri Lanka Joint Commission.
