Former Deputy Minister Sarana Gunawardena and three others arrested on charges of abducting a youth during the period leading up to the General Election have been acquitted.

The order was issued by the Gampaha Magistrates Court (MC) today. The Former Deputy Minister and three others were arrested and subsequently remanded for alleged assault on the person in August last year.

The Police summoned Gunawardena in August 2015 following a complaint filed by the person who accused the former Deputy Minister of assaulting him over an election related issue.
