The Colombo Magistrate Court permitted the Colombo Crime Division (CCD) to send CCTV footage of the abduction and assault incident and the consequent media conference held by Hirunika Premachandra to Moratuwa University for analysis.
The nine suspects including Hirunika Premachandra appeared in Court when the Case was taken before Colombo Additional Magistrate Mohammed Nihai this morning.
The Colombo Crime Division (CCD) also sought Court permission to submit the records of the recent Identification Parade conducted to the Attorney General.
Later Additional Magistrate Mohammed Nihai ordered the Court Registrar to send the said records to the Attorney General.
At the same time, lawyers of the defendants quoted a statement made by MP Udaya Gammanpila during a recent media conference as saying that granting bail to Hirunika Premachandra could make the Guinness book of records.
Defendants’ lawyers said the MP statement has intervened in Court proceedings therefore he should be summoned before Court and record an explanation.
However the Additional Magistrate rejected the request and stated that the Court is not accountable for statements made by outsiders.
The nine suspects including Hirunika were ordered to appear before Court next on the January 26th.
